What we perceive to be basic truths about ourselves, childbirth, parenting, our relationship…all can be thrown into crisis. The loss often is not well understood by our support system, and this makes for a complicated grief process. We also may grieve differently than our partner, which can take a significant toll on our relationship. . Understanding our traumatic experience and working through the challenge our experience poses to our relationship can help us move through this difficult journey of loss and grief.

  • Trauma

Understanding that the trauma response is a normal response to an abnormal situation is central to our trauma recovery experience. Our mind and body, including our brain and spinal cord, actively responded to protect us during our traumatic experience. The advances in our scientific understanding of trauma and the brain have helped us to improve the treatments we offer to those who have experienced trauma.
